The key rules

These are the 5 very simple rules that you need to follow to play in Mash Pit Comedy.

1. Shared Comedy

Mash Pit Comedy is a site where everyone can share each other’s material and create new comedy clips. By uploading a video here you agree that other members can use your clip to create new video material for this site. This means you can download any clip from Mash Pit Comedy, mash it up with your own video material or other clips from the site to create a new comedy video which you will upload to mashpitcomedy.com. We make it easy for you to tell us which clips you’ve used in your mash by providing a list of clips you’ve already downloaded when you upload the new video.

2. Boomerang Comedy

If you choose to download and mash up clips from this site you agree that you will only re-post these mashed clips to the Mash Pit Comedy website (ie don’t put them on YouTube). Keep them in the Mash Pit Comedy family. You can share your clips and embed them on other sites using the Mash Pit Comedy player.

3. Not Overly Offensive Comedy

Make your videos funny, but don’t put the following in them: swearing of the really bad kind, bullying, abuse, personal attacks or disrespectful behaviour, racism, sexism, harassment, threats, profanity, vulgarity, obscenity, pornography, illegal or unlawful conduct, defamation. Basically, play nice.

4. Own What You Upload

Make sure you own what you upload. You warrant that you own, or have a licence from whoever owns, all the material in your video, including footage, music, jokes, lines, performances, people’s images and voices, artwork, graphics etc. If you don’t have these rights, don’t put your stuff up. By uploading your own content you’re giving a license for other Mash Pit Comedy members to use your content in their clips. Make all your content yourself. We love lo-fi comedy!

5. Get Your Comedy On TV

Mash Pit Comedy will be New Zealand’s first TV sketch comedy show made up from stuff created by you! If you put hilarious videos on the site it could end up in the TV show on Prime. The more popular a clip becomes on the site, the better chance the clip will be selected to star on the TV show. The best clips on the TV show, as judged by an audience vote, will win much fame and great prizes.
