How to set up an iMovie project

Different versions of iMovie have slightly different ways of creating a video project. We’ve combined instructions from various versions to help make it clear for you.

Setting up a Widescreen (16:9) or Non-widescreen (4:3) iMovie project:

  1. Open the iMovie program.
  2. Select Create a new project or New project.
  3. Give your project a name e.g. Me being really stupidly hilarious.
  4. Select location on your computer where you want to save your project.
  5. Select the Aspect Ratio of your project, depending on the aspect ratio of your footage:
    • if you have 16:9 footage select Widescreen (16:9) or DV Widescreen
    • if you have 4:3 footage select DV (4:3) or Standard (4:3)
  6. Click OK or Create.
  7. You’re ready to import footage you’ve shot or clips you’ve downloaded from Mash Pit Comedy. Happy editing!
