How to set up a Windows Movie Maker project

Setting up your Widescreen (16:9) or Non-widescreen (4:3) Windows Movie Maker Project.

Good, now you’re good to set up your edit project.

Please note these instructions may differ slightly depending on what version of Windows Movie Maker you are using.

  1. Open Windows Movie Maker.
  2. Go to the Tools menu, should be found top left hand of the menu bar.
  3. Select Options on the Tools menu.
  4. Once the Options window opens, click on the Advanced tab.
  5. Under Video Properties, there are two options for video format (NTSC and Pal). Always select Pal.
  6. There are two options for aspect ratio (4:3 and 16:9):
    • If your video is Widescreen (1024x576 pixels) select 16:9.
    • If your video is Non-widescreen (720x576 pixels) select 4:3.
